Bariton Bas Cornelissen begon met zingen in het Nationaal Kinderkoor, maar koos toch voor een wiskundig avontuur. Pas tijdens zijn promotieonderzoek omarmde Bas de muziek volledig en momenteel volgt hij een master oude muziek zang aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam bij Xenia Meijer en Sinan Vural. Daarnaast volgde hij privélessen bij Andreas Wolf en masterclasses bij onder andere Margreet Honig.
Bas treedt regelmatig op als solist in de passies van Bach, maar ook in Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Mozart’s Requiem of Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem. Dit najaar staat Mahlers Das klagende Lied op het programma voor zijn solodebuut in het Concertgebouw.
Naast zijn solowerk heeft Bas ruime ervaring als ensemblezanger, met onder andere de Reisopera. In 2023 organiseerde hij de Nederlandse première van Maximilian Steinbergs concert voor koor Stille Week. Momenteel broedt hij op avonturen voor het spiksplinternieuwe oude-muziekensemble Tempera Mente.

Baritone Bas Cornelissen began singing in the Dutch National Children’s Choir but first embarked on a mathematical adventure. During his PhD in computational musicology, Bas fully embraced music and he is now completing a master’s in early music singing at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Xenia Meijer and Sinan Vural. He studies privately with Andreas Wolf and has taken masterclasses with Margreet Honig, among others.
Bas regularly performs as a soloist in works such as J.S. Bach’s Johannes and Matthäus Passions, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Mozart’s Requiem, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem. Mahler’s Das Klagende Lied is on the programme for his solo debut at the Concertgebouw in fall 2024.
