Baritone Bas Cornelissen began singing in the Dutch National Children’s Choir but first embarked on a mathematical adventure. During his PhD in computational musicology, Bas fully embraced music and he is now completing a master’s in early music singing at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Xenia Meijer and Sinan Vural. He studies privately with Andreas Wolf and has taken masterclasses with Margreet Honig, among others.
Bas regularly performs as a soloist in works such as J.S. Bach’s Johannes and Matthäus Passions, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Charpentier’s Te Deum, Mozart’s Requiem, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem. Mahler’s Das Klagende Lied is on the programme for his solo debut at the Concertgebouw in fall 2024.
In addition to his solo work, Bas has extensive experience as an ensemble singer, performing with groups such as the Reisopera. In 2023, he co-organized the Dutch première of Maximilian Steinberg’s choral concerto Passion Week. Currently, he is planning new musical adventures with the newly founded early music ensemble Tempera Mente.

Baritone Bas Cornelissen started singing as a child but only pursued it professionally during his PhD. He is currently a master’s student in early music singing with Xenia Meijer and Sinan Vural at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Bas regularly performs as a soloist in oratorio, from J.S. Bariton Bas Cornelissen begon met zingen in het Nationaal Kinderkoor, koos aanvankelijk voor een wiskundig avontuur, maar kon tijdens zijn promotieonderzoek de verleiding van de muziek niet langer weerstaan. Hij studeerde zang aan de conservatoria van Utrecht en Amsterdam, waar hij in het voorjaar van 2025 zijn master oude muziek afrondde bij Xenia Meijer. Tijdens zijn studie zong Bas in het koor van de Reisopera. Daarnaast volgde hij lessen en masterclasses bij Margreet Honig, Andreas Wolf en Georg Nigl, en wordt hij momenteel gecoacht door Vitali Rozynko.
Bas treedt regelmatig op als solist in repertoire dat reikt van Buxtehudes Membra Jesu Nostri, via cantates en passies van Bach tot Brahms’ Requiem en Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem. In 2024 maakte hij zijn solodebuut in het Concertgebouw met Mahlers Das klagende Lied. Daarnaast zingt Bas liedrepertoire met historische instrumenten – van virginalen tot tafelklavieren – en richtte hij vorig jaar het spiksplinternieuwe oudemuziekcollectief Tempera Mente op.
